Tycobka
Last week I saw Jena Malone coming out of my Citibank on Park Avenue South, and yesterday I saw Abigail Breslin eating an ice cream cone on Mott St.
No point, just making conversation.
When I saw Elijah Wood coincidentally standing in front of a movie poster for Everything Is Illuminated during the Deitch project art parade a couple years ago, I had no idea the movie would be so funny. I’ve got in on in the background while I work and it’s a nice surprise, even if I’m not really paying attention. My nerd kicks in on the bad-translation humor.
The daytime television I remember is falling a bit short of my needs, although Little House on the Prairie it still running, just like it did when I worked at home in 1998, and Dawson’s Creek and Ellen are on just like in 2004. How am I supposed to keep track of time without reliable and disorienting television, even if I do things like mute it, then forget about it for 3 hours.
Tycobka (tu - SOV - ka) is a word in Russian my friend Anna taught me, that would save us a lot of time when describing “people with something specific in common getting together for that reason, but socially” like to play music for instance. The closest phrase we have is “meet-up” but “gig” isn’t right, neither is “get-together” a complete indication. For instance, writing workshop, but the part where you go out to eat or drink. Events at Etsy Labs or Dorkbot also come to mind. With working from home, I have to make a point to do more of those things.
Oh man, I think the character I liked was just killed. Ah, nope. he’s up.
I’m bad at tv.
