Perl is Fine!

“This is the 7th annual State of the Perl Onion speech, wherein I tell you how Perl is doing. Perl is doing fine, thank you. Now that that’s out of the way, I’d like to spend the rest of the time telling jokes.”
—Larry Wall
I’m not a Perl guru. I can barely read it. But I tell ya what, I really like those I’ve met that can write the hell out of it.
i’ve decided to link you.
Larry Wall is one of those people, that I’d want to have around if I was forced to start a new colony on a deserted island. He might not be able to write much Perl there, but I reckon he could turn his hand to just about anything. Like cracking coconuts. And spearing fish.
Not that I would want him to spear fish. But I’ll bet he’d be bloody good at it.
I’m not a Perl guru either. Although I have seen enough of it to think it’s a bit crap. Once I had to write a HTTP proxy for a support centre thingy, in Perl. Remarkably it worked, but I haven’t written a line of Perl since.
Actually, that’s not entirely true. But almost.
Erin, very nice.
Ryan (damn i wish i could figure out how to have multiple comments in a post like mihow, but her shit’s all custom) I gotta say. You hurt my heart. :P Perl, to me, is confusing and difficult at times. I blame it on my education in everything other than learning to think. Give perl a chance (unless you can just be nice to people who know it—that’s my method)
But yes, Larry Wall would be a great guy to get stuck with. Better than the professor, and much funnier. If I were stuck with Carrot Top or Gilbert Godfrey I’d kill them with a rock and live alone. hehehe
